When to pick another bot

If you need a plan that is free forever, pick Talksy or iTranslator. If you would rather pay once for prepaid credit than subscribe, pick Discord Translator (nvu.io). If you want a web dashboard, or translation in DMs and in servers where the bot is not installed, pick iTranslator. Parley has no free-forever plan, its translated messages always carry Discord's APP tag, and its routes are capped at 50.

How to choose a Discord translation bot

  1. 01 Budget Decide whether you need a free-forever plan or can pay after a trial. Check what the free plan caps, such as characters or messages per month.
  2. 02 Translation quality LLM translation handles context, slang and tone better. Machine translation is fast and cheap but reads more literally.
  3. 03 How translated messages appear A message reposted under the original author is easier to follow than a bot reply under every message.
  4. 04 Channel layout Pick channel-to-channel if each language has its own channel, or same-channel if everyone talks in one place. If you use forum channels, check that posts, titles and tags are covered.
  5. 05 Names and terms Game, product and member names get mistranslated. A glossary keeps them consistent.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Talksy has a free-forever plan with per-member monthly caps, and iTranslator has a free plan of 10,000 characters per server that resets when you vote. Discord Translator (nvu.io) gives a one-time free trial of 5,000 characters. Parley has no free-forever plan; it offers a 30-day free trial that requires a card.

Both post translations through a webhook under the speaker's name and avatar, and both support forum channels. Talksy has a free-forever plan and 100+ languages, and its glossary holds do-not-translate terms only (30 free, unlimited on Pro). Parley has no free plan, but its glossary also covers official translations (up to 2,000 entries) and it follows tone instructions.

Parley mirrors forum posts and translates their titles and tags. Talksy supports forum channels on both its free and Pro plans. iTranslator and Discord Translator (nvu.io) do not disclose forum channel support in their public pages.

LLM translation reads the whole message, so it handles context, slang and tone better and can follow instructions such as “keep it casual”. Machine translation is faster and cheaper but more literal. Of these four, only Parley states that it uses an LLM; Talksy does not name its engine, iTranslator uses an AI engine only on its Pro AI plan, and Discord Translator (nvu.io) does not say.

Each bot handles this differently, so check its privacy policy before adding it. Talksy says it keeps translated text for 30 days in an EU database and does not use it for training. Parley does not store message content; it is sent to a third-party LLM endpoint for translation only, and the Privacy page lists what is stored and for how long.
